Trip to Fiji islands

28 August 2011

I spent my 2011 summer vacation on Fiji islands, archipelago of more than 300 islands and inhabited by about 850,000 fijians (small country!). Apart from crystal blue water and unmanned islands, it's a good chance to discover a South Pacific culture!

Program: white sand, palm trees, but also fijian warriors and cannibals... let's start by what most of tourists there are interested with: idling under palmtrees. Check all the pics below!

Azalea and Hortensia festivals 2001

Living in the Bunkyo ward of Tokyo, i'm visiting each yeat to neighbour festivals: the azalea festival in Nezu shrine and the hortensia festival at Hakusan temple.

There are a lot of azalea throughout Tokyo, especially along the downtown roads, that become bordered with flashy pink at the blossom peak end of April-beginning of May. Let's start with pics from Nezu-Jinja.

Daily Life #1

29 July 2011

In this "Daily Life" series, i'm just showing pics taken on the spot with my iPhone. The quality is thus not very good but at least it's live and real! Those posts don't talk about a particular topic but several different things which are part of... Japanese Daily Life!

Summer in Japan (except if you're in the far North) is hot and kind of humid. Thus even in the center of Tokyo, insects will accompany you from July to September, mainly cicadas and all sort of cockroaches. Like this one, relaxing on top of a Bali-style frog, in front of a Balinese restaurant in Roppongi.. Anyway, read below!

Kyoto Gion Festival 2011

25 July 2011

The Gion festival is one of the biggest Japanese festival. It has been performed for 1000+ years and takes its name from the Kyoto "Gion" district, hosting the Yasaka shrine, Father of the festival. During 3 days, a high fever spreads through Kyoto as the festival climax is getting closer.

The festival reaches its peak when the "yamaboko" floats parade through the city on July 17th. During the preceding days, floats are stationned in several places where you can watch them very closely. See below more details and pictures!

First post!

24 July 2011

Hi, i've been writing this blog in French since i came to Japan in October 2007. I'm writing and showing things about Japan: trips, daily life, weird things etc..

After almost 4 years, 300 entries and thousands of pictures, i decided to start a Japanese version and this English version. French and English version will be very close; of course the Japanese version will be slightly different since Japanese readers... know Japan well already!

Yoroshiku! Francois.
